Ganesha's Obstickals (2008)Upon seeing a re-filled lolly jar including Froot Sticks, colleague Rach exclaimed "I LOVE Froot Sticks!!!!" and so the seed was sewn for her upcoming birthday present. After many failed ideas (Froot Stickery - Fanzine for Froot Stick lovers, Froot Stick Trading Cards, etc) I happened upon the connection of Froot Sticks, the Hindu God, Ganesha, and attributes of a Design Facilitator (which is based on Ganesha's deity credentials). |

UxD Kit - Useful eXpectancy Devices Kit (2004)A box filled with 'useful' expectancy devices for a future mama and design colleague Tasi. It was a play on the wonderful world of user experience that we'd been immersed in for eight months. Tasi left early and this was supposed to help fill her time. (Un)fortunately, Brayden came early meaning the kit was of no practical use whatsoever and the planned "Been inside 9 months" onesie was amended accordingly. |

West Wing Travel Activity Kit (2007)Design mentor, boss, and American citizen Leslie was traveling to the States - including D.C. - to spread the word about the service design capability we were establishing in NZ, and to re-connect with design buddies. She likes the West Wing (give me Lost any day) and the Kit was a no-brainer - rustled up in a day or so. |

MELT Memory Cards (2007)Design mentor, boss and friend LT, was permanently leaving NZ for D.C. Because of her I understood that thing I did, the vocation I practiced, had a name: design. How to mark the end of this chapter of our relationship? A personalised set of memory cards: 16 ways to inspire memory. Inspired by my fondness for the IDEO method card concept, and their compact nature and straight-out coolness of attractive, practical things in a box. (P.S. ME are my initials) |

Blinkys (2008 - 2009)I had been walking back from one of our offices and thought "wouldn't it be cool to do random clipart - like a fish on a pile of paper while unicorns vomit rainbows in the background" I shared this thought with Dan. He concurred. We decided on a rule-of-three. Three random elements must be contained. Otherwise - no rules. Why 'blinkys' - becuase that was the name of the three-eyed fish in The Simpsons. |

Motivational Business Cards (2009)Following is a series of 'Motivational Business Cards', prepared by myself and Dan W (Atomic Hotdog) for our departing Group Manager. Jim, said GM, had paved the way for design to be established in our organisation and was off to establish his own consultancy. There were 100-or-so in total, Dan did his half, I did mine, and Rach (design colleague, friend (and fiance to Dan) worked with me on putting the final packaging together, while Dan raided in World of Warcraft and called out "do you need any help?' once or twice. There were six sections/themes: |
|

Motivation... because he was going out on his own. |
|
![]() |
Design...because it was one of the topics he was specialising in. |
|
![]() |
Innovation...because of his love of innovation in business. |
|
![]() |
Leadership...because he would need to lead his clients to be innovative, and trust him through the design process. |
|
![]() |
Small Business Advice...because, as a consultant, he was now a small business owner. |
|
![]() |
#$@!...because he may need an occasional reality check that sometimes things won't go right, be fair, or be easy. |

Service Design illustration (2007)My day job is as a service designer. In trying to describe 'service design' and how it was different from what our organisation currently did, and what it needed to do I came up with this conceptual illustration of service design to help people see what it is we, as designers, needed to do. Key inspirations for the end result was the KISD paper 'Service Design: Practical Access to An Evolving Field' and Dave Merrill's illustration of 'The Manufacturing Revolution' |

Design Group - concept (2007)In setting up a new business area to build service design capability from scratch I did this diagram (overnight I was so inspired) after I got all excited about what were trying to do. I represented the four interrelated components of our design capability framework: Identity, Practice, Process and Expertise in order to capture a tangible view of what the Unit was working towards.

Research through play (2006)To explore the experiences, attitudes and behaviours of under 17-year-old Mäori students this game was created as a way to indirectly discover current experiences (personal, family, community) and expected/potential future life experiences through play. It was very successful in providing a conversation starter, and opportunity to explore for the researchers as the participants were able to joke about what they knew (or didn’t) and discuss with peers experiences |

Collaboration Map (2009)You have to know what you're doing before you can change and improve things. This map (expunged of identifying information) illustrated how the different processes and methodologies of the organisation fitted / should fit in order to go from idea to implementation.

Townplanning Analogy (2009)This illustration used the analogy of how a city runs to show how all the different processes and methodologies operated together. For some reason I always refer to it as a Townplan, even though it's a city. Go figure. |
